Looking for a good read and don't know where to begin? Check out the suggestion (below) from Suite Francaise Originally planned as a five-part novel patterned after Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Suite Francaise was published sixty-four years after Irene Nemirovsky death at Auschwitz. Her daughters had in their possession notebooks filled with her tiny handwriting but were too heartbroken to open what they believed to be her journals.
Just as compelling as the novel she created is what follows - her notes about the work and the correspondence of family and friends trying to gain knowledge of her whereabouts and well-being. The reader cannot help but feel Nemirovsky’s presence as her story is told, especially when one notices that the end papers are copies of her handwritten notes. Additional suggested reading: David Golder AND The Watchtower
