April 21, 2008 PRESS RELEASE From Lyn Crouse, Head Librarian 1. Encourage your kids to Go Buggy with Your Library at Summer Reading Club this year. The statewide theme is insects, so the Greater Canonsburg Public Library is featuring Buggy Stories, Ant Art and Termite Theatre along with our usual Fabulous Fun Friday Fieldtrips. SRC begins June 16th and goes through August 8th, with four weeks of sessions at the North Strabane Intermediate School and four weeks at our Cecil Resource Center for students who have completed K-5th grade. You may register for individual weeks or for all four of them. Again this year, our friends at Community Action Southwest will be partnering with us to offer Summer Reading Club for preschoolers. There will be two weeks at the Greater Canonsburg Public Library, two weeks at North Strabane Intermediate School, and one week at the library’s Cecil Resource Center. We will be having a special Summer Reading Club kick-off event at the North Strabane Intermediate School on the afternoon of Sunday, May 4th. Register now to bring the whole family for a trip down Bill Pate’s Drum Trail, an interactive journey through fifteen billion years of noise, rhythm, and music. Those who attend will not only enjoy the show, but can be the first to enroll in Summer Reading Club immediately afterward. All children’s programs are FREE to our resident cardholders. 2. The Wednesday Friends Book Discussion Club invites you at attend its meetings on the second Wednesday of the month from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Greater Canonsburg Public Library. The group is reading books written by local authors. The club meets every month except for July and August. New members are always welcome. 3. The bookmobile will be on the road shortly after school ends. Watch for it in your neighborhood! If you know of an area that would be a good stop, please feel free to contact Lyn at the library at 724-745-1308. |
